HISTORY OF VISCOUNT

In 1963 a group of local butchers formed Sundries Grimsby Ltd to supply food ingredients and packaging to butchers shops in the Grimsby area.

In 1972 the name was changed to Viscount Butchers Products Ltd. and in 1973 the company was taken over by John Crampton. The first acquisition was Butchers Supplies (Bradford) Ltd in 1982, followed by Woolley Glenbourne Ltd in 1999, Spiceblenders Ltd in 2000, R White Ltd in 2001 and GB Supplies Ltd in 2002. This then became the Viscount Group but each company still retains its identity.

The company has a customer base of 3,637 which range from small butchers & bakers to large blue chip manufacturers and processors.

We are the first company to supply everything to the butchery, bakery and food manufacturers from herbs, spices, seasonings, knives, coats & aprons, machines, packaging materials, flour, yeast, cake mixes, jams, frozen pies and pastry shells. This gives the company a product range of 4,474 items in our niche industry of only 87 companies in the UK.

The company started Viscount Environmental Service Ltd in 2000 and is BPCA and audited and NPTA accredited with its entire staff professionally qualified. The section also carries out Q.A audits for BRC (British Retail Consortium), accredited companies.
All the sites have Investors in People status, ISO 9001. Spiceblenders Ltd has Organic food manufacturers status and is going for BRC status in 2007. Each site is audited monthly by senior management for Health & Safety, Fire procedures, C.O.S.S.H, Financial controls and by outside auditors every 6 month. We have BMC (Business Continuity Management) enabling all sites to be up and running in the event of a Fire within 48 hours.
	The Fleet The company delivers using its own fleet of nine Mercedes trucks and vans to Darlington in the North East, down to Warwick in the South, Burnley & Manchester to the West, and along the East coast to Kings Lynn, We also use carriers to deliver nationally.
Own Label The company has a range of own label products, Viscount Flour, Rusk, Bakery Fats, Cleaning materials, Butchers Choice Seasonings, Granny's home farm jams, and a number of special purchase contract in commodities. The company has its own website with an online shopping facility using the link from www.visprod.co.uk. All the sites are linked to head office in Grimsby via a broadband link. Other Brands Viscount also sell Patterson's Pickles, Ripon Rusk, Lucas products, RHM, Bakemark, MRC, Versegen, Leonard's and other well known trade brands.
